Bullshit, bullshit, and more bullshit, actions from CBC?

Crucial questions, CBC's President, Hubert Lacroix, Our Minister of Heritage & Culture, James Moore and our CRTC (names to follow) - have to answer and explain to Canadians.

Why, has the CBC steadily erased just about all - CBC English local programming in Montreal and Quebec: when in fact their 'supposed mandate', is to grow English Quebecers programming in Quebeck.. because, we are the OFFICIAL Minority population in Quebec, and recognized as such by Canada:

And - given, CBC's responsibility is, to concentrate on growing - French local programming -OUTSIDE- Quebec, NOT inside Quebec, because Francophones are Officially a Minority group, as we all know - in the rest of Canada, and the MAJORITY in Quebec; why has CBC spent so much of its budget, over the past few decades, on French programming IN Quebec - and yet NOTHING on English programming IN Quebec?

Why has CBC instead ... built 10 French stations IN Quebec, plans on building another 4-5 more IN Quebec, bringing the total to, around 15 French CBC locations - where the French population IS the Majority! Not to mention, Quebec had, and has, an 'overabundance' of, privately owned Francophone and French CBC media locations and outlets!

As for Canada's other minority group, Anglo Quebecers, who desperately need local programming from CBC: not only has CBC done NOTHING for them; why has CBC in Quebec, ERASED, just about, ALL Anglo local programming?

Why does the only mention of, in his 5 year Corporate Plan about CBC's English programming in Quebec, CBC President, Mr. Lacroix, have the nerve to say - he "Hopes to Maintain what is there".
WTF?????? He, HOPES, to maintain NOTHING ??... (note the word, hope!)

And - how can he have the nerve, to glowingly describe, the importance of building even more French locations in Quebec?

Again, why is he spending CBC's 'limited' budget, to open more, 'absolutely unnecessary' French locations, while CBC English programming is close to becoming EXTINCT? (Is this the REAL CBC Plan, for English minority local programming and has this been the REAL Plan all along? It's sure looking like it, no?)

Why has the Presidient of CBC - not concentrated on building the - absolutely necessary, English local programming, as per its 'mandate' and as per the 'Broadcasting Act'? Remember, we're talking about, 2.5 million Anglos in the greater Montreal area!

How can CBC violate its own mandate - its responsibility to the Public - and so very, blatantly discriminate, against English speaking Quebeckers?

From what I understand, from Mr. Lacroix's own speeches and writings: CBC is ethically and legally bound to support and promote, Minority population - Local Programming. As a matter of fact, he certainly seems to be saying that, that, is his top priority in his 5 year plan!

If that's the case - why do his actions scream - the exact opposite?

Another very important question is: Who, what, where, when and why - has allowed this 'disgrace' to go forward?

Bullshit ? What CBC Says vs What CBC Does For Local Broadcasting?

Take a look below at "The Broadcasting Act" section iv: and then ask where CBC is reflecting the different needs and circumstances of each official language community, including the particular needs and circumstances of the English linguistic minority in Quebec - especially in the Greater Montreal Area !

Why is the CBC - (imo) bullshitting its owners, the Canadian public, into believing the Broadcasting Act is being respected in Quebec, for the 'substantial English population in the Province', when in FACT - CBC has - ERASED - just about - ALL local English programming in Montreal and Quebec, thereby DEPRIVING millions of English speaking Quebeckers their outlet for expression ? (see: CBC: "Impact of Potential Loss Of Local Broadcasting"

The Broadcasting Act states:
"3. (1) It is hereby declared as the broadcasting policy for Canada that
(l) the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, as the national public broadcaster, should provide radio and television services incorporating a wide range of programming that informs, enlightens and entertains;
(m) the programming provided by the Corporation should:
(i) be predominantly and distinctively Canadian,
(ii) reflect Canada and its regions to national and regional audiences, while serving the special needs of those regions,
(iii) actively contribute to the flow and exchange of cultural expression,
(iv) be in English and in French, reflecting the different needs and circumstances of each official language community, including the particular needs and circumstances of English and French linguistic minorities,
(v) strive to be of equivalent quality in English and in French,
(vi) contribute to shared national consciousness and identity,
(vii) be made available throughout Canada by the most appropriate and efficient means and as resources become available for the purpose, and
(viii) reflect the multicultural and multiracial nature of Canada;
(n) where any conflict arises between the objectives of the Corporation set out in paragraphs (l) and (m) and the interests of any other broadcasting undertaking of the Canadian broadcasting system, it shall be resolved in the public interest, and where the public interest would be equally served by resolving the conflict in favour of either, it shall be resolved in favour of the objectives set out in paragraphs (l) and (m)."

1. What impact does the loss of local broadcasting have on the diversity of voices?
Local broadcasting – on television and radio – remains an important way of ensuring that the issues and perspectives of local communities have an outlet for expression – both locally and on a national level. That identification with the lives of people in other communities is the very essence of a national identity. While other platforms, particularly new media, are emerging to address the needs of local communities, to the degree that local television broadcasting is lost, an important safeguard of diversity is lost with it.

That is why CBC/Radio-Canada is committed to remaining deeply rooted in Canada’s regions. We believe that it is part of our mandate, as the public broadcaster, to ensure that that service remains part of the Canadian broadcasting system."

Note **CBC Montreal - English Programming** is just about non existent**

All other locations below are French only & CBC President, Mr. Lacroix, plans on building 4-5 more French only locations in Quebec and more French stations in Western Canada - and again, NOTHING for English Quebeckers - who again - have no local programming to speak of. Why is that ? And if this doesn't scream of - linguistic bias - I don't know what does.

French Language locations in Quebec.

Letter Sent to: Henry Aubin- Gazette, Heritage Minister & CBC President.

The Nancy Wood outrage  is steaming.  Here's the latest letter I sent on the subject.  CBC remains SILENT.  Their contempt for the English Montreal community becomes more evident every day.

Dear Mr. Moore,

Following up on my first email to you  - I'm forwarding you an email sent to Henry Aubin of  The Montreal Gazette.
And I will be posting a copy of this email  on Facebook  and my blogs as well.   I look forward to this very serious matter being addressed by your office  and that the Erasure of CBC English Local Programming  in Montreal and Quebec - be reversed immediately.

Dear Mr. Aubin,

I'm one of the many that have not only written and tried to reach Ms. Marquand by phone;  I've also written and called Annette Kirk and spoke with her colleague Tanya, who told me they were overwhelmed with calls and emails.  Tanya reassured me that Annette Kirk would definitely return my call and she also gave me Annette's email address.   The calls were not returned and her email address came back undeliverable.    I've also written Hubert Lacroix, James Moore (Heritage & Language Minister) to voice my concerns about CBC's 5 year corporate plan  - 38 pages... read it 4 times.

Because:   Mr. Lacroix  makes it very clear in the plan - that one of CBC's  top priorities is  (paraphasing here)  to  establish locations and a strong presence, across the country for regions 'minority communities'.   He stated that most of the,  56% of the budget would go to the Francophone population in Quebec by building 4-5 new locations throughout Quebec ex: Sherbrooks, Trois Rivieres etc...   and more French stations  in Western Canada.

The English community of Montreal for some reason doesn't qualify - because we are more than 1 million people and understand English.  What he fails to mention is that English CBC programming has been systematically  diminished  to a point of non existence.  We are offered almost no local programming  and/or  CBC hosts, personalities etc.    Nor  do we have access to ...  all the CBC community involvement, he so glowingly  describes as 'crucial  to the community...'

He also fails to mentioned that CBC French content, locations etc.. are almost over represented in Quebec:  and yet - he feels its - crucial  4- 5 more locations - are built along with everything that comes with it - recruiting, training - promoting etc...

Now you tell me:  WTF !!!   Anglo Quebecers  -  in Montreal and Quebec  -  get  NOTHING  - and the most they can hope for, according to Mr. Lacroix -  is  that they hope to "Maintain what is there now"  Maintain -  What?  CBC has erased it down to  Nothing already.   Obviously  - the PLAN  - is to Erase it completely  and the only CBC local content we will get - will be from Toronto!   He's made it very, very, clear it is not OUR CBC.  It is his CBC.

If that is not blatant discrimination  and  a disgraceful use of our  significant TAX dollars  --  and another punch in the stomach to  "Les Autres"  - then I don't know what is.   This man should be FIRED  immediately for violating  CBC's  BIAS regulations.

A copy of this letter will be sent to:  James Moore  and Hubert Lacroix

CBC's Respecting Regions Minority Population - Bullshit

Note**  All requests to CBC - to discuss these issues - are being ignored.  As a matter of fact - CBC continues to ignore the thousands of messages - protests etc...  asking why  it fired Nancy Wood for being too popular!!!/group.php?gid=315057499163&ref=mf

(**Note**  The bolds  and italics  below are mine.)

CBC's Corporate Plan has become a very interesting (bullshit ??) read:  Throughout the document CBC President, Hubert Lacroix,  stresses  CBC's respect for Canada's 'Diversity'  and its dedication to  serving & respecting the minority population regions.  Here are some  quotes from  Mr. Lacroix.... describing 'his take' on it.

Page 1.  "...An additional source of satisfaction has been the progress we are making towards becoming a truly integrated organisation.  We no longer see ourselves as a broadcaster with  separate and discrete media lines; we see ourselves, and we increasingly behave, as an organisation in which everyone collaborates and shares resources to generate deeper, richer content that we make available to audiences on whatever platform they prefer. That is why we refer to ourselves as a content company."

Page 2.  "...We believe that the new framework points the way for CBC|Radio-Canada to become even better at using its limited resources to reach more Canadians in more ways with unique Canadian programming."

Page 2-3.  "Our new strategic framework was arrived at not only through extensive consultation with CBC|Radio-Canada employees and the Senior Executive Team, but also through taking into account the results of an in-depth review of the broadcasting environment in which we operate.
We believe that it is essential to offer our Canadian content on multiple platforms, and we intend to increase our investment in this area. A strong regional presence is also fundamental for a public broadcaster, and we intend to increase or, at a minimum, maintain our level of investment in the regions so that we can better reflect local needs and concerns."

Note** the only increase  is going to be spent to substantially increase CBC's French content - new stations, hiring, promotion etc...  throughout Quebec and Canada !!   That's it!!  Nothing else for Canadian content  and more importantly - NOTHING, NOTHING FOR ENGLISH Montreal with its Quebec minority label - but Greater Montreal majority fact (pop. 2+ million) - continues to be Erased FROM  CBC - as quickly as possible.  Why ??  When the greater Montreal area contributes 69% of Quebec's budget !!

Page 5.   "...We have earned that trust by consistently offering audiences Canadian content they will not
find anywhere else. Only with CBC|Radio-Canada do they have the opportunity to learn from, comprehend and connect with one another, and to watch and listen to stories made by, for and about Canadians. Only here will they find diverse Canadian viewpoints and a wide range of informed opinion every day.  In other words, our content helps audiences understand and participate in what it means to be Canadian. In a time of virtually unlimited media choice and increasing social change, our content is a unifying force that helps counter the risk of regional and cultural differences fragmenting and isolating the citizens of Canada."  Note**  CBC in Montreal & Quebec continues  TO FRAGMENT AND ISOLATE English Quebeck content - out of existence..

Page 27.  (read document for new French stations throughout Canada etc...)

"Roughly 56% of the capital budget over the next three years is planned to be spent on production infrastructure, master control and presentation facilities, where major initiatives include replacing failing obsolete equipment, centralised radio master control, modernising radio production facilities, establishing regional French Television stations in Trois-Rivières, Sherbrooke and Saguenay as part of the Cogeco disaffiliation, updating the Toronto broadcast facilities which are approaching 20 years of age, upgrade of  the Centre de l’Information (CDI) complex in Montreal, further rollout of Desktop Television production, a major facility improvement and integrated newsroom investment in Vancouver and some High Definition Television (HDTV) production investments to replace existing standard definition assets which have reached their end-of-life. Assets in this area are increasingly unsupported by vendors and the move to computer based production technology is accelerating the refresh cycle. Approximately 10 per cent of the budget is planned to be spent on corporate-wide systems and technology infrastructure. Specific initiatives include a Corporate Newsroom system project, completion of an HR Talent Management system, phone system upgrades and updates to server infrastructure and software."

See the CBC Plan in its entirety here:

Ask: James Moore - Canada's Minister of Heritage & Language:

phone: 613-992-9650,  email:

Ask  him:   WHY CBC is  deliberately, violating it's  claim:  to honor & reflect  Canada's Diversity" bullshit - by ERASING CBC's English Media Content and ask why the ONLY Diversity CBC is concentrating on for the next 5  Years is:   The Promotion and growth of French only outlets - throughout Quebec & Canada. 56% of CBC's ENTIRE budget is being dedicated to this.

This is what CBC's President defines as concentrating on Canada's Diversity ??  Cleansing English CBC out of Quebec - Montreal - is respecting a regions Minority ????

Sample Of: CBC "Not Your Business" replies

Montrealer  outrage over the Nancy Wood firing,  not only continues, it's growing big time,  into an  'International  Movement'!  CBC is being bombarded with, thousands of: calls and letters, emails, blogs,  Facebook petitions, international petitions, Quebec journalists writing articles (French & English); ..too many to list here.
The ONLY public response from CBC Management has been:  in Henry Aubin's  Montreal Gazette column, today:  "Marquard was unavailable for an interview yesterday. "We've said what we've had to say," said a CBC spokesman."

subjectCBC Radio Daybreak

Dear Didi:

Thank you for your email of March 8. I'll respectfully disagree with your suggestion that Montrealers' attempts to reach "CBC Management" since February 17th" have been met with "a wall of silence." In fact, we have responded to numerous inquiries such as yours and from media with regard to Daybreak. We'll continue to respond to those who contact us.

We'd like to thank you for your dedication to Daybreak - and we're glad to know it's part of your weekday morning.  We also understand that because you're a regular Daybreak listener, you are concerned about our recent decision to change the show's host.
Nancy Wood joined the Daybreak team as host in August 2009.  It was not a permanent assignment and when she returns from her current absence she will begin a new assignment at the CBC.
We understand that some of Daybreak's listeners will not only miss Nancy as the show's host, but have also asked for more details regarding our decision.  Our policy, like most organizations, is not to disclose personal and confidential information regarding our employees.  We think this is an important principle of privacy and respect for all of our employees.
We sincerely thank Nancy for her continued commitment to the CBC and most recently, while she was in the Daybreak host's chair.  We look forward to continuing to work with her when she returns.
Thank you for listening to Daybreak

To your other points: It is true that we spend considerable resources on advertising and promotion in our various markets across the country. Montreal is most certainly part of that. We do not, however, for competitive reasons discuss those amounts publicly.

And I'm afraid I must again disagree with your suggestion that there is any attempt on the part of CBC to reduce the number or limit the opportunities of its Anglophone hosts or employees. No such policy exists, nor would one be tolerated.

Thank you for taking the time to share your views.

Yours very truly,
Pia Marquard
Managing Director, Quebec

subjectRe: CBC Radio Daybreak

Dear Pia,

1) CBC Clearly announced Nancy Wood as the NEW HOST of Daybreak.  NOT the NEW INTERIM Host - ... I repeat, the NEW Host.
2) I suggest you read CBC's Corporate  Plan (July 2009) Summary.  It is a Public Document.  And your actions and Managements  actions - clearly - contradict  CBC's  responsibility to the public.
3) As for considerable resources on advertising etc....   I don't see how you can equate - the public questioning - WHY Nancy Wood is the ONLY one - who received  NO promotion whatsoever - with advertising competitive reasons?   No one has asked for the dollar amounts  - CBC spends.  They are asking why - Nancy Wood  - received NO promotion !
4) You are  obviously a newcomer to la belle province Pia.  I'm talking about the - 30 year - record of CBC Montreal, & Radio Canada (Mtl.)   of replacing  English Employees - from bottom to top - with French Employees.   From floor sweepers on up.
The English (Anglo) employment opportunities have certainly been both limited and reduced.
5) As a matter of fact: (and notwithstanding 59% of the budget dedicated to new French stations in Three Rivers, Sherbrooke,  etc...)  It seems the trend is going to continue - right through 2014 - according to the Corporate Plan Summary.    Clearly stated:  Plan... Priorities: French  HR strategy: recruit, train and develop; Begin a new era in labour  (note: it's 56% - I made a typo)
Recruit, train, retain and empower a skilled workforce; Work towards a more positive Union- Management relationship
Increase diversity in On Air staff and our workforce, Enhance creativity and empowerment of staff relations; Implement a diversity action plan; Build versatile, multiplatform production teams;  Revise succession plans for Radio, News and regional centres;  Succession: focus on Western Canada.... versus:  The ENGLISH  - see page 20  of the document....   (nothing)

I'd say - my statement - and questions  are very valid - and serious, no?  Again, I'd be more than happy to discuss - any misconceptions you believe I may have.

The Bullshit Bullet is looking for non bullshit journalists. The REAL DEAL

Want to be a part of growing a real news outlet?  Let's talk !

CBC Montreal - Screwing - Nancy Wood - Big Time!

Update on the CBC article  March 11, article:   I'm going to ask you to bear with me on this one.   I'm  still waiting for CBC's  Audience Relations Manager, CBC's President,  CBC's Pia Marquand etc...  to return my calls, voice mails &  emails, as promised.  As a matter of fact, at this stage of the game, I'll be happy to speak with  someone. anyone, at  CBC 'Management',  about  'issues',  that need to be addressed for this article.  Mind you,  what I thought would be a pretty simple article to explore,  has instead, unearthed a bucket of worms - that really need to be explored.

I forgot to mention, just finding CBC Management  contact info.,  has taken days!!   I repeat days!!  Note:  CBC is Canada's Public Broadcaster, paid for by Canadians.  And yet, access to, management, is mind bogglingly, difficult.  It's akin to finding, a needle in a haystack.   A long story, I'll be happy to share with you, another day.

In the meantime  I'm going to wait, until  "all attempts" to speak with a freaking department head, have been exhausted.

Till then, I suggest you take a peek at an example of what,  CBC - 'Big Shots'  really think about, Joe Public, who  - pays - their 'hot shot'  perky, salaries.

What is exciting is:  For the first time in decades, I'm witnessing English speaking Montrealer's, taking a stand, about losing something or rather someone, that's important to them!  Praise the Lord,  they're fighting back!!  You see, years of being bullied, have conditioned them into being, a pretty subservient bunch, that doesn't dare make waves.  Believe me, they've endured, a lifetime of,  'Try the patience of a Saint',  should be screaming, damn pissed, trials and tribulations.  I'll get into that another time :))

What seems to have finally, broken the camel's back is:  CBC Montreal & Toronto head office,  have responded with a,  Wall Of Silence,  to thousands of phone calls - emails, open letters ... (as one CBC employee described it,  "An overwhelming amount of calls & correspondence" ), vigorously objecting to the 'unjust firing' of a 16 year, CBC staff member,  Nancy Wood.  She's like the,  last Mohican;   one of the very rare, true professional journalistsleft,  in the freaking Province!    Fired - from her CBC appointed,  "CBC's Daybreak - new - Talk Show Host", job.  No one know why!
Please try to stay with me here.  I know it must be getting a bit confusing.  All that's known is, some  idiot, YAHOO, CBC honcho, must have decided, she's  becoming  much too popular!  No, no typo...  too popular.. you read right.
Lots of stories that make 'no sense' in La Belle province.  Will get into that another time, as well.

Due to their,  'tear ones hair out'  anger & frustration, Montrealer's have created a Facebook: "Keep Nancy Wood As Host Of Daybreak",  page.   Take a peek - :!/group.php?gid=315057499163&ref=nf

To be continued........

Just to let you know:   The next Blog will  feature:  CBC - Canada's  Public Broadcast Network.  It will be posted by  Thursday, March 11th.

Then, it's back to the good old  USA!   Then again maybe not... :)

Sunday, March 7, 2010

This creed was written by Walter Williams (1864-1935), the man who founded the world's first school of journalism at the University of Missouri and perhaps contributed more toward the promotion of professional journalism than any other person of his time.

I believe in the profession of Journalism.

I believe that the public journal is a public trust; that all connected with it are, to the full measure of responsibility, trustees for the public; that acceptance of lesser service than the public service is a betrayal of this trust.

I believe that clear thinking, clear statement, accuracy and fairness are fundamental to good journalism.

I believe that a journalist should write only what he holds in his heart to be true. I believe that suppression of the news, for any consideration other than the welfare of society, is indefensible.

I believe that no one should write as a journalist what he would not say as a gentleman; that bribery by one's own pocket book is as much to be avoided as bribery by the pocketbook of another; that individual responsibility may not be escaped by pleading another's instructions or another's dividends.

I believe that advertising, news and editorial columns should alike serve the best interests of readers; that a single standard of helpful truth and cleanness should prevail for all; that supreme test of good journalism is the measure of its public service.

I believe that the journalism which succeeds the best-and best deserves success-fears God and honors man; is stoutly independent; unmoved by pride of opinion or greed of power; constructive, tolerant but never careless, self-controlled, patient, always respectful of its readers but always unafraid, is quickly indignant at injustice; is unswayed by the appeal of the privilege or the clamor of the mob; seeks to give every man a chance, and as far as law, an honest wage and recognition of human brotherhood can make it so, an equal chance; is profoundly patriotic while sincerely promoting international good will and cementing world-comradeship, is a journalism of humanity, of and for today's world."

Okay, Who Stole The Real CNN?

I'm NOT asking about today's, agonizing to watch, "No Bull - No Bias" pretend CNN.

The one that has to explain away its nothing but - bull & bias - with its, 100x's a day - self professed, "No Bull -No Bias" - bullshit promo ads.

The one that fired the REAL journalists and replaced them with: 'Same Hairstylist - good teeth' News Readers, possessing, very little gray matter, no investigative skills, no concept whatsoever of what: Who, What, Where, When & Why, means.

The one that turned Larry King into: CNN's Entertainment Tonight & Domestic News only, Host.

That's not the CNN I'm looking for. I'm looking for the REAL CNN !

The one that opened the "Door to the World" for us.
The one that featured the TRUTH.
The one that introduced us to interviews with World Leaders.
The one that introduced us to BOTH SIDES of an Argument.
The one that ASSUMED we had brains.
